Device Type Management

A network may be comprised of different devices from different vendors, and these devices support different command lines. TAM supports the categorization of devices based on device type. After devices are categorized, an authorization policy can authorize device users through different command sets based on device type. In addition, TAM supports a maximum of 512 device types of five levels. It displays the devices in a tree structure, implementing intuitional, convenient and flexible device management.

Features

• Add Device Type
  
  Perform this task to add a level-1 device type.

  Procedure

  1. Click the User tab, and select Device User Policy > Authorization Conditions > Device Types from the navigation tree to open the Device Type List page.
  2. Click Add to open the page for adding a device type.
  3. Type the device type and description. The parent type is displayed as -- for a level-1 device.
  4. Click OK.
• Add Sub Type
  
  Perform this task to add a sub area. If a device type contains a device, you cannot add a sub type for this device type.

  Procedure

  1. Click the User tab, and select Device User Policy > Authorization Conditions > Device Types from the navigation tree to open the Device Type List page.
  2. Click the icon of the target device type to open the page for adding a sub type.
  3. Type the device type and description. Type the device area name and description. The parent device type is displayed.
  4. Click OK.
• Modify Device Type or Sub Type
  
  Perform this task to modify a device type or sub type.

  Procedure

  1. Click the User tab, and select Device User Policy > Authorization Conditions > Device Types from the navigation tree to open the Device Type List page.
  2. Click the icon of the target device type to open the page for modifying the device type.
  3. Modify the device type and description.
  4. Click OK.
• Delete Device Type
  
  Perform this task to delete a device type. You cannot delete the following device type:

  • A device type used by an authorization policy. To delete the device type, first delete the device type from the authorization policy.
  • A device type that contains a device or sub type. To delete the device type, first change the type of the device or delete the sub type.

  Procedure

  1. Click the User tab, and select Device User Policy > Authorization Conditions > Device Types from the navigation tree to open the Device Type List page.
  2. Click the icon of the target device type.
     A confirmation dialog box appears.
  3. Click OK.
