Query Clients
Perform this task to query clients. You can choose Basic Query or Advanced Query.
WSM uses the following steps to obtain the user name to display on the Client List:
- When the client accesses the wireless network through 802.1X authentication, WSM checks whether an 802.1X user name is configured on the wireless device. If it is, WSM displays the 802.1X username as the user name. Otherwise, WSM goes to the next step.
- WSM checks whether a MAC-user name binding is configured for the client in client information management. If it is, WSM displays the username in the binding as the user name. Otherwise, WSM goes to the next step.
- WSM identifies whether an IP-username binding has been configured for the client in the EIA/IPM component. If it has been configured, WSM displays the username in the binding as the username. If a binding has been configured in both EIA and IPM, WSM displays the username in EIA. If no binding is configured for the client, WSM goes to the next step.
- WSM identifies whether a MAC-username binding has been configured for the client in the EIA/IPM component. If it has been configured, WSM displays the username in the binding as the username. If a binding has been configured in both EIA and IPM, WSM displays the username in EIA. If no binding is configured for the client, WSM goes to the next step.
- WSM identifies whether the client exists on the Online User List of EIA/IPM. If it exists, WSM displays the username of the client on the Online User List as the user name. If a binding has been configured in both EIA and IPM, WSM displays the username in EIA.If it is, WSM displays the username of the client on the Online User List as the user name.
For example, if a client uses username A to access the wireless network through 802.1X authentication, the client appears on the Client List with the user name A. After you bind the MAC address of the client to user name B in client information management, the user name on the Client List does not immediately change. However, if the user logs out and then re-logs in through a non-802.1X authentication method, the client appears on the Client List with the user name B.
Procedure
- Click the Service tab.
- From the WLAN Manager navigation tree, select Resource Management > Clients to open the Client List page.
- Basic Query
- Enter the MAC address of the client in the query field on the top right corner.
- Click the Query icon
.
- To reset the query criteria, clear the query field first and click the Query icon
.
- Advanced Query
- Click the Expand icon
on the right of the query field.
- Specify the query criteria.
- Click Query.
- To reset the query criteria, click Reset.
Remarks
- Static blacklist is a WIDS feature and its configurations are deployed to devices through SNMP by WSM.
- If the device type is Unlimited, the device label cannot be used as a query condition.
- If you enter no query conditions, all the clients that you have permission to view are displayed.
- For basic query, all query criteria are in an OR relationship. For advanced query, all query criteria are in an AND relationship.
- The History Information page accessed by clicking the link in the Operation column displays information only when performance collection is enabled. Performance collection consumes a lot of system resources. As a best practice, do not enable this feature unless required.
- Clients in the static blacklist cannot access the WLAN. To remove a client from the static blacklist, perform the following tasks:
- Select Remove MAC from Static Blacklist in the Operation column for the target client in the client list.
- Access the WLAN Manager > WIDS Management > WIDS Config page, select Set Static Blacklist in the Operation column for the target AC, and then remove the target client MAC addresses.
- Access the AC details page and click Set Static Blacklist in the AC Configuration area.
