Add/Modify Trap Definition

This function enables you to manually add or modify trap definitions.

Operation Procedure

1. Click the Alarm tab, and then select Trap Management > Trap Definition in the navigation tree. The Trap Definition page appears.
2. Click Add or Modify to enter the page for adding or modifying a trap definition.
3. Configure all the information for the trap definition.
4. Click OK.

Parameters

• Trap OID: It includes the following parts:
  • Generic ID: Indicates the number following the last but one dot "." .
  • Specific ID: Indicates the number following the last dot "." .
  • Enterprise ID: Indicates the numbers except for generic ID and specific ID.

For example, if the trap OID is 1.3.6.1.4.1.2011.2.23.11.2.6.2001, the specific ID is 2001, the generic ID is 6, and the enterprise ID is 1.3.6.1.4.1.2011.2.23.11.2. If you click OK, the system processes the trap OID you entered, the following rules apply:

1. If it is a standard OID, the system does not process it.
2. If the number following the last but one dot "." is "0", it is replaced as "6" to be used as the generic ID.
3. If the number following the last but one dot is "6", it is used as the generic ID.
4. If the number following the last but one dot is neither "0" nor "6", the system adds ".6" after the number, and use it as the generic ID.

For example:

• 1.3.6.1.4.1.2011.2.23.11.2.0.2001 is converted to 1.3.6.1.4.1.2011.2.23.11.2.6.2001.
• 1.3.6.1.4.1.2011.2.23.11.2.2001 is converted to 1.3.6.1.4.1.2011.2.23.11.2.6.2001.
• 1.3.6.1.4.1.2011.2.23.11.2.6.2001 keeps unchanged.
• Enterprise name: If the enterprise ID exists in the system, the enterprise name you enter must be the same as that defined in the system.
• Trap description: You can use predefined macros. The system replaces them with actual values after receiving traps. For example, the CPU usage ($4) of device $3 ($2) exceeds the threshold ($5). The macros supported are as follows:
  • $n: Displays the value of a trap variable in the format of a character string, where n is a number in the range from 1 to 99 representing the position of the trap parameter in the Related Parameters list in The System Trap Definition Details page.
  • $+n: Displays the name of a trap variable in the format of a character string, where n is a number in the range from 1 to 99 representing the position of the trap parameter in the Related Parameters list in The System Trap Definition Details page.
  • $O: Trap name.
  • $R: Trap source name.
  • $a: Trap source IP address.
  • $s: Trap severity level.
  • $o: Trap OID
  • $x: Date when the trap is generated.
  • $X: Time when the trap is generated.
  • $@: Date when the trap is generated, the format of result is number.
  • $E: Enterprise ID.
  • $S: Specific ID.
  • $G: Generic ID.
  • $#: The pound sign (#) represents the total number of trap variables contained in the packet. The string "$#" is displayed as a number.
  • $P: Interface description.
  • $c: IP address of the first VB parameter index.
• Parameter: Set parameters for the current trap definition. You can modify the order of the parameters and set the key parameter setting. The Key Parameter field is used by The System to restore traps or determine whether the traps sent from the same device or component of a device are duplicated.
• This Trap Restores: Select the trap to be restored by the current trap definition. The following conditions must be met:
  • The OID of the key parameters in the trap to be restored should be the same as that of the key parameters in the current trap definition.
  • The number of the key parameters in the trap to be restored should be the same as that of the key parameters in the current trap definition.
A trap can be the same as the restore trap, it needs to be configured in the server/conf/ frd_byvb.conf file, except the link up and link down traps.
