Duplicate Trap Filter Configuration
When traps are reported repeatedly in a short time, they flood the system and make it difficult for troubleshooting. This function enables you to filter unnecessary duplicate traps. The system generates an alarm when the amount of received duplicate traps exceeds the threshold.
Operation Procedure
- Click the Alarm tab, and then in the navigation tree select Filtering Trap to enter the Filtering Trap page.
- Click the Modify icon
corresponding to a filtering rule to display the Duplicate Trap Filter Configuration page.
- The Duplicate Trap Filter Configuration page provides the following operations:
- Click Select Trap, and then select traps.
- To remove an trap from the duplicate trap list, select it and click Delete Trap.
- Select whether to escalate traps to alarms. If yes, specify a threshold.
- Select whether to filter traps from unmanaged devices.
- Type the length of time window.
- Type the length of trap queue.
- Select whether to use sliding time window.
- Click OK.
Parameters
- Length of Time Window: Specifies a period during which the same traps received are considered to be duplicate traps, and only one of the traps is saved.
- Length of trap Queue: The maximum number of initial traps to be kept in the trap queue. The traps in the queue are used to match the subsequent traps to identify duplicated traps. A larger length value helps filter more duplicate traps but consumes more resources, and vice versa.
- Use Sliding Time Window: If you select this option, the sliding time window is used. Otherwise, the fixed time window is used.
- Unfiltered Duplicate Traps: This function allows you to set the duplicate traps not to be filter as some duplicate traps provide useful information. If any unfiltered duplicate trap you set here is reported repeatedly by the devices in a short time, the traps are received completely no matter whether duplicate trap filter is enabled.
Precautions
- You can configure the threshold only after you select Escalate to Alarms.
- You can configure unfiltered duplicate traps, length of time window, length of trap queue, and use sliding time window only after you select either Escalate to Alarms or Filter repeated traps.
