WSM is the wireless device management component of INC that provides rich and flexible management functions for wireless devices. If you are using WSM for the first time, this guide helps you understand the basic aspects of wireless network management.

  • Add wireless devices.

Begin with adding the wireless devices in the network to INC. There are two ways to add wireless devices, by using the auto discovery function of the platform or by adding devices manually. When there are a large number of devices to be added, the auto discovery function can automatically find all the supported wireless devices throughout the network, which reduces the workload of adding individual devices. As a supplement to auto discovery, manual adding can be used to add devices not found by auto discovery or to add new devices to the INC platform.

  • Manage resources.

WSM provides the resource management function for centralized management of ACs, fat APs, fit APs, and clients. You can query device information by various criteria. For more information, see Resource Management.

  • Configure location views.

The APs are managed in location views. You can choose to group devices geographically or administratively, for example, by floor or by administrative area. Thus, you can easily monitor the running status (such as signal range, performance, and alarm statistics) of the APs on different floors or administrative areas, and quickly respond to any faults of the wireless network. For more information, see Location Views.

  • Perform location functions.

WSM provides the following location functions: GIS locating. For more information, see Locating Management.

  • Manage WLAN configurations.

Use configuration management to easily configure wireless devices. For more information, see Configuration Management.

  • Manage wireless devices.

Wireless device configuration is the core module of WSM. The wireless device configuration function of WSM helps you quickly build a WLAN. WSM supports configuring fit APs and fat APs. Configuration of a fit AP is performed on its connected AC. The configuration on the AC includes basic parameters, radio policy, service policy, fit AP template, and radio policy for the fit AP. This configuration makes a fit AP ready for networking. The fat AP configuration is relatively simple, including basic parameters, service policy, and related radio parameters. For more information, see Wireless Device Management.

  • Configure network planning.

Use network planning to plan the location and number of APs in your network before you deploy or extend a WLAN.

  • View wireless service report.

Use wireless service report to view wireless service statistics by table and graph.

  • View wireless service alarm.

Use wireless service alarm to view alarms of all levels, unrecovered alarms, and recovered alarms.
