Network Planning

Use network planning to select AP models and plan AP deployment by analyzing signal coverage before you purchase APs.

Manual Network Planning

  1. Add Location.
  2. If the target AP models are not available in the system, add them in AP Model Management.
  3. If the target antennas are not available in the system, add them in Antenna Management.
  4. Open the view topology, and then add a virtual AP from the shortcut menu.
  5. Select the virtual AP, select Modify Virtual AP from the shortcut menu, and then modify the radio and antenna information in the window that appears.
  6. View the signal coverage area.
  7. If the signal coverage is not as expected, you can adjust the location, radio, and antenna information of the virtual AP as needed.

Automatic Network Planning

Make sure no APs exist in the location view before you use automatic network planning.

  1. Add Location.
  2. If the target AP models are not available in the system, add them in AP Model Management.
  3. If the target antennas are not available in the system, add them in Antenna Management.
  4. Click the view topology.
  5. Add a background picture for the topology.
  6. Select Set Scale from the shortcut menu, click and drag the cursor to draw a line, enter a value in meters or feet in the Actual Distance field in the dialog box, and then click OK.
  7. Select Plan Network > Draw Covered Area from the shortcut menu, select the radio type, AP vendor, AP model, and enter the minimum signal strength, concurrent online user count, and per-user bandwidth, and then click OK. You are in the auto plan region mode.
  8. Click and drag the cursor on the background picture to draw a network planning region, and then double-click to finish drawing. You can draw multiple network planning regions.
  9. Click the Pointer icon on the toolbar to exit auto plan region mode.
  10. Select Plan Network > Auto Lay APs from the shortcut menu.
  11. View the signal coverage area.
  12. If the signal coverage is not as expected, you can adjust the location, radio, and antenna information of the virtual AP as needed.
