IP View
If a device that supports routing has at least two interfaces configured with IP addresses, the system identifies it as a Layer 3 device. If the device has only one interface configured with an IP address, the system identifies the device as a Layer 2 device and shows it in the specific subnet view. All devices are classifed and placed according to the subnet which their IP addresses belong to.
Functions
Precautions
- Each node is followed by a number enclosed by square brackets ([]), indicating the number of devices in this subnet.
- For an admin, the IP view shows all subnets of the network and devices in each subnet. For the other operators, the IP view shows only the subnets and devices to which they have management access.
- The status of a subnet in the IP view depends on the status of the device(s) in the subnet raising the highest level of alarm. The icon of a subnet view is grayed out if there is no device in the subnet.
- In an IP topology, the subnets calculated by Layer 3 devices are used, and a Layer 2 device automatically adjusts its IP subnet according to the following guideline: If the subnet mask calculated by a Layer 3 device is of no less than 24 bits and the subnet includes the subnet calculated by the Layer 2 device, the subnet of the Layer 3 device is considered as the subnet of the Layer 2 device.
- Layer 2 Topology displays only Layer 3 devices with links. The Layer 3 devices without a link are displayed in the the IP topology only.
