IP Topology
The IP topology shows the IP layer of the managed network based on the identification and analysis of the physical network. The IP topology displays the logical links between Layer 3 devices (having two or more IP addresses and IP forwarding enabled). The IP topology shows the connections among Layer 3 devices and subnets, the routes on the network, and how the network is subnetted.
Operation Procedure
- Click the Resource tab.
- Select View Management > Network Topology in the navigation tree.
- Double-click IP Topology in the topology navigation tree to enter the IP topology page.
Functions
- Display or hide empty edge subnets: Click
on the toolbar to display empty edge subnets. Click
to hide empty edge subnets.
- Path topology: Right-click a blank area of the IP topology and then select Path Topology from the shortcut menu. In the dialog box that appears, type the source IP and the destination IP and click OK.
- Neighbor topology: Right-click a device node in the IP topology and then select Neighbor Topology from the shortcut menu. In the dialog box that appears, select the neighbor hops and click OK.
Precautions
- If a system operator does not have privilege to manage any device on an IP subnet, the system operator cannot view devices on the IP subnet. In this case, the IP subnet is an empty subnet for the system operator. A system operator can configure the system to hide empty subnets. How to display the hidden empty subnets is determined by the Display Hidden Nodes function in Advanced Settings.
- An empty edge subnet refers to an edge subnet with no devices, while an edge subnet refers to a subnet that has one link that connects with only one layer 3 device.
