Custom Topology

The custom topology shows the actual physical topology of the whole network, that is, how many devices are in the network and the how these devices are interconnected.

In the custom topology, you can create your own custom topology views as required. The initially-created network topology view displays the physical structure of the whole network. You can divide the network into several areas by creating multiple subviews. In this way, you can get well acquainted with the structure of the whole network, and thus monitor and manage the network device resources more effectively and conveniently.

In the custom topology, the created custom topology views are independent of each other and do not affect each other, so that you can manage the network in different aspects.

Operation Procedure

1. Click the Resource tab.
2. Click View Management > Network Topology in the navigation tree to enter the custom topology page.

Functions

• Topology Toolbar and Shortcut Menu Operations

  • Add a view: Right-click in a blank area of the custom topology and select Add View from the shortcut menu. Specify the View Name, Upper-Level Topology, and Automatically Add New Devices parameters, and click OK. Topologies embedded in pages do not support this function.
  • Add a cloud: On the topology toolbar, click the Add Cloud icon . Or, right-click in a blank area of a topology and select Add Cloud from the shortcut menu. To enable opening the cloud in a non-embedded topology by double-clicking it, select the Double-click to open option in the Add Cloud dialog box.
  • Add a note: On the topology toolbar, click the Add Note icon . Or, right-click in a blank area of a topology and select Add Note from the shortcut menu. In the Add Note dialog box, specify the name, background and foreground colors, and font size for the note, and click OK.
  • Add a device: On the topology toolbar, click the Add Device icon . Or, right-click in a blank area of a topology and select Add Device from the shortcut menu. On the Add Device page, specify the parameters for the device and click OK.
  • Add devices to the current view: Right-click in a blank area of a topology and select Add Device to This View from the shortcut menu. On the appearing window, select devices and click OK.
  • Modify a view: Right-click in a blank area of a topology and select Modify View from the shortcut menu. In the Modify View dialog box, modify the parameters for the view, and click OK. Topologies embedded in pages do not support this function.
  • Add a link: Use one of the following methods to add a link:

    Method 1: On the topology toolbar, click the Add Link icon . Or, right-click in a blank area of a topology and select Add Link from the shortcut menu.

    Method 2: Press Ctrl and select two nodes in a topology. Click the Add Link icon on the topology toolbar, or right-click the nodes and select Add Link from the shortcut menu.

    Method 3: In the Link Management dialog box, click Add Link.

  • Manage links: On the topology toolbar, click the Link Management icon . Or, right-click in a blank area of a topology and select Link Management from the shortcut menu. In the Link Management dialog box, perform operations such as adding, deleting, querying, and resetting links, modifying link names, viewing link details, and restoring links to system links.
  • Topology integrity analysis: Right-click in a blank area of a topology and select Topology Integrity Analysis from the shortcut menu.
  • Enable/disable ping topology: Right-click in a blank area of a topology and select Enable Ping Topology or Disable Ping Topology from the shortcut menu.

• Node Operations

  • Device operations
    • Copy/paste: Right-click a device or link and select Copy. Right-click in a blank area of a topology and select Paste. Topologies embedded in pages do not support this function.
    • Open lower-level NMS: Right-click a lower-level NMS and select Open Lower-Level NMS from the shortcut menu.
    • Open lower-level NMS topology: Right-click a lower-level NMS and select Open Lower-Level NMS Topology from the shortcut menu.
    • Open lower-level NMS custom view: Right-click a lower-level NMS and select Open Lower-Level NMS Custom View from the shortcut menu.
    • Open web-based NMS for a device: Right-click a device and select Open Web-Based NMS from the shortcut menu.
    • Modify a device icon: Right-click a device and select Modify Device Icon from the shortcut menu. In the Modify Device Icon dialog box, select or upload an icon, and click OK.
    • View device details: Right-click a device and select Device Information from the shortcut menu.
    • Neighbor topology: Right-click a device and select Neighbor Topology from the shortcut menu. In the Neighbor Topology dialog box, specify the Hops parameter and click OK. The embedded topology does not support this function.
    • LLDP-MED topology: Right-click a device and select LLDP-MED Topology from the shortcut menu. Only switches in a non-embedded topology support this function.
    • View device spanning tree information: Right-click a device and select Spanning Tree from the shortcut menu. Only switches support this function.
    • View device VRRP information: Right-click a VRRP device and select VRRP Information from the shortcut menu.
    • Ping a device: Right-click a device and select Tools > Ping from the shortcut menu.
    • Telnet to a device: Right-click a device and select Tools > Telnet from the shortcut menu.
    • Traceroute a device: Right-click a device and select Tools > Traceroute from the shortcut menu.
    • Log in to a device through SSH: Right-click a device and select Tools > SSH from the shortcut menu.
    • Delete a device from the system: Select one or more devices. Right-click the devices and select Delete from the shortcut menu. In the confirmation dialog box, click OK.
    • Delete a device from the current topology: Select one or more devices that are not in a subview. Right-click the devices and select Delete Device from This View from the shortcut menu. In the confirmation dialog box, click OK.
    • Modify label: Right-click a device or cloud and select Modify Label from the shortcut menu. In the Modify Label dialog box, enter a new label in the Label field and click OK.
    • Synchronize a device: Right-click a node and select Synchronize from the shortcut menu.
    • Lock/unlock a device: Right-click a node and select Lock or Unlock from the shortcut menu. Notes and subview nodes do not support this function.
    • Manage/unmanage a device: Right-click a device and select Manage or Unmanage from the shortcut menu. Only My Network View in the custom topology supports this function.
    • Alignment: In a topology, select two or more devices. Right-click the devices and select Alignment > Horizontal Alignment, Vertical Alignment, Horizontal Isometric Alignment, or Vertical Isometric Alignment from the shortcut menu.
    • Topology Diagnosis: List the calculation methods of the link, if it used or not, and results returned.
    • Set hold: Affects all interface of the device. Use for device maintenance.
    • Import/Export Topology: Right-click a blank area in the topology, and select Import/Export Topology from the shortcut menu. Then, the Import/Export Topology window opens.
  • Subview operations
    • Create a subview: Select one or more devices. Right-click the devices and select Create Subview from the shortcut menu. In the Create Subview dialog box, specify the name, background and border colors, and devices for the subview, and click OK.
    • Rename a subview: Right-click a subview and select Rename from the shortcut menu. In the Rename dialog box, enter a new name in the Subview Name field, and click OK.
    • Modify aspect: Right-click a subview and select Modify Aspect from the shortcut menu. In the Modify Aspect dialog box, modify the name, background and border colors, and background transparency for the subview, and click OK.
    • Delete a subview: Right-click a subview and select Delete Subview from the shortcut menu. In the confirmation dialog box, click OK.
    • Add devices to a subview: Right-click a subview and select Add Device from the shortcut menu. In the appearing window, select devices and click OK.
    • Delete devices from a subview: In a subview, select one or more devices. Right-click the devices and select Delete from Subview from the shortcut menu. In the confirmation dialog box, click OK.
    • Add a note for a subview: Right-click a subview and select Add Note from the shortcut menu. In the Add Note dialog box, specify the name, background and foreground colors, and font size for the note, and click OK.
    • Expand/collapse a subview: Right-click a subview and select Expand or Collapse from the shortcut menu. Or, double-click a subview to expand or collapse it. This function is not supported if the subview contains no nodes.
    • Lay out a subview: Right-click a subview and select Layout from the shortcut menu.
    • Put a subview at the top layer: Right-click a subview and select Top Layer from the shortcut menu.
    • Put a subview at the bottom layer: Right-click a subview and select Bottom Layer from the shortcut menu.
  • Other operations
    • Delete a cloud from a topology: Right-click a cloud and select Delete from the shortcut menu. In the confirmation dialog box, click OK.
    • Delete a note: Right-click a note and select Delete from the shortcut menu. In the confirmation dialog box, click OK.
    • Modify a note: Right-click a note and select Modify Note from the shortcut menu. In the Modify Note dialog box, modify the name, background and foreground colors, and font size for the note, and click OK.
    • Open view topology: In the custom topology, right-click a view and select Open from the shortcut menu. Or, double-click a view to open the view topology. Topologies embedded in pages do not support this function.

• Link Operations

  • Expanding links: To expand the bundled links between two nodes, double-click the link bundle, or right-click the link bundle and select Expand Link from the shortcut menu.
  • Bundling links: To bundle multiple links between two nodes, right-click any of the links and select Bundle Link from the shortcut menu.
  • View link details: Right-click a link and select Link Information from the shortcut menu. Or, double-click a expanded link to view its details.
  • Delete a link: Right-click a link and select Delete Link from the shortcut menu. In the confirmation dialog box, click OK.
  • Modify link name: Right-click a link and select Modify Link Name from the shortcut menu. In the Modify Link Name dialog box, enter a new name in the Link Name field and click OK.
  • Modify link interfaces: Right-click a link and select Modify Link Interfaces from the shortcut menu. In the Modify Link Interfaces dialog box, modify the nodes and interfaces for the link, and click OK.
  • Adding break Point: Link adds point to change the direction of the link.
  • Set hold: Set hold on interfaces of the link, Use for link maintenance.

Precautions

• Only the administrators and maintainers can create custom topology views.
• The system automatically creates a topology view named My network view. You can delete or rename it.
• The active subview is automatically displayed on the top layer of the custom topology. If the peer nodes of the active subview belong to other subviews, the peer nodes are also automatically displayed on the top layer.
• A custom topology cannot contain duplicate devices. When you paste nodes to a custom topology, the system automatically skips the nodes that already exist on the custom topology.
• When you use a Firefox browser to access the system, if you click the link or button need jump to system homepage (for example, the link corresponding to the device label ) in the tip for a device in the topology view, you must manually switch to the system homepage tab of the browser to view the corresponding information.
• When the access method of the lower-level NMS is HTTPS, the cloud of the lower-level NMS cannot be opened when you double-click the cloud for the first time. To solve this problem, you must manually access the HTTPS address of the lower-level INC, and click ADVANCED > Proceed to. Then, you can open the cloud of the lower-level NMS in the cloud during the session access period.
• When a subview contains too many devices, you can create views to hierarchically display devices. As a best practice, do not create multiple levels of subviews to hierarchically display devices. If you do that, each subview will be bound to its lower-level subviews. In this case, the location of a collapsed subview might be incorrect. When the lower-level subview of a subview is located on the upper left border of the topology, the subview might be displayed outside the topology after being expanded, which might cause the subview locations to be disordered.
